You will still need to read the abstract or skim the work to confirm.FASTsearch includes the ‘original research’ label when any one of the following is true about the article: This feature will tell you how long an article is and if FASTsearch thinks it is original research.If the information is available, you will see it displayed just above the article’s title:Important note: This is not an exact science and FASTsearch is doing its best to make the determination about ‘original research’. To display your original search results, select the Search tab.What is this? When you are viewing a record for a book in FASTsearch it will link you out to the records for any related book reviews or individual chapters it can see.When viewing a book’s record look for the ‘Reviews and chapters’ link below the description:Clicking on the link will open a new pane on the right side of the screen which will list out any reviews or chapters related to the book title:Note: This link might not be available for every book title you discover in FASTsearch.What is this? From here you can choose a Google account if you’re already signed in, or you can sign into an account of your choosing. After selecting ‘Sign in with Google’ a new window will appear. We highly recommend permanently saving, otherwise you will lose the search at the end of your session.

There is a recent movement in ‘altmetrics’ to track impact in other spaces such as social media, as mentioned above, to give a more complete picture of how a work is being used and discussed.Some tools, like Google Scholar’s author profiles, will include a list of author-level citation metrics. Others have argued that citation counts do not reflect the full ‘impact’ of a work. Some of the formulas will include self-citations which can skew results. They can include (but are not limited to) peer reviews on Faculty of 1000, citations on Wikipedia and in public policy documents, discussions on research blogs, mainstream media coverage, bookmarks on reference managers like Mendeley, and mentions on social networks such as Twitter.” Check out our blog post about Altmetrics for more info.What gets a little complex, of course, is whether these formulas/calculations are accurate measures of something like ‘impact’. As with most databases, you can search for tests/measures containing certain keywords by entering a term or two into the search box. 29 PsycTESTS — a great portal to full-text tests, measures, and scalesYou can connect to PsycTESTS from the ‘Databases’ link on the library homepage.
